Welcome to ES Therapy Centre. I’m the founder and Principal Psychologist based in Medway. I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and share a bit about my background, approach, and what you can expect when working with me.
Why I Became a Psychologist
I’ve always been drawn to people’s stories, curious about how we become who we are, and what helps us change. As a child, I was the one asking questions, trying to understand how others were feeling, even before I had the language for it. Over time, that natural curiosity grew into a deeper interest in psychology and a desire to support people going through challenges. Like many psychologists, I’ve also had my own experiences of feeling stuck or overwhelmed, and I know how powerful it can be to feel truly heard and supported. That understanding, both personal and professional, influenced my decision to become a psychologist. What continues to inspire me is witnessing the resilience people carry, often without realising it.
My Training and Qualifications
I completed my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Psychology at the University of Kent, followed by a Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at the University of Roehampton in London. My academic background, combined with clinical experience, allows me to support clients with a range of issues in a way that’s both evidence-based and tailored to each individual client.
How I Work
I am a relational integrative psychologist. For me, the therapeutic relationship is a co-created partnership, and an important tool for facilitating development and growth. I work collaboratively with my clients, in accordance with their needs and goals. I will not usually advise, instead, my focus is on creating a non-judgemental space to talk through worries and find meaning
I also draw on a variety of other therapeutic techniques and theories, such as psychodynamic theory, attachment theory, and CBT. I believe that the trust and care offered in therapy enable the exploration of difficult feelings and experiences. Often, this allows the client the opportunity to develop greater self-awareness, emotional regulation, and healthier relational patterns.
Areas of Focus
I work with individual adults, in both English and Portuguese, and support clients facing issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, and relationship difficulties. I have a particular interest in supporting clients through periods of transition, including midlife changes, menopause, and evolving family dynamics. I bring specialist experience in working with older adults and family-related challenges, and I understand how these shifts can impact emotional well-being, identity, and relationships.
Therapy for Anxiety
Anxiety is one of the most common issues I work with. While symptom management is important, I also help clients explore the underlying causes, whether that’s early experiences, patterns of attachment, or other personal or relational factors. Psychoeducation plays a key role, alongside building emotional awareness and developing coping strategies that are grounded in practical tools.
My Perspective on Mental Health Today
There has been a major shift in societal attitude toward mental health. There is increased awareness of the prevalence of mental health issues and the impact they have on individuals, families, and communities. This has been fuelled by the efforts of advocates and organisations, such as Mind who have worked tirelessly to destigmatise mental health difficulties and promote awareness. At the same time, conversations around therapy are more transparent, and there’s better access to resources and support than ever before.
Most significantly, the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted this need for additional support, as many people have experienced heightened levels of stress, anxiety, and grief. This shift in attitude has led to more open conversations, improved access to care, and a greater understanding of the importance of mental health in our daily life.
What I Value in This Work
I feel incredibly grateful for the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships with my clients during their most vulnerable moments. To put it simply, I get to witness the resilience that lies within each person, even when they don’t see it themselves. Being able to connect with another on such a profound level and have them share a part of their life with me, is both a privilege and an honour.
Community Involvement
In addition to my private practice, I’m committed to supporting mental health beyond the therapy room. I regularly collaborate with community-based organisations that work to improve access to psychological support and raise awareness around mental health issues.
This year, I’m proud to partner with the Ben Raemers Foundation, offering reduced-rate concession sessions. The Foundation does important work in breaking down stigma around mental health within the skateboarding community and encouraging open conversations. To find out more about the work the foundation does, visit their website: https://thebenraemersfoundation.com/
Being able to contribute to initiatives like this is an important part of my practice and reflects my belief that therapy should be as accessible and inclusive as possible.
Managing the Challenges
Like many in helping professions, therapists can face emotional fatigue. For me, self-care is a priority. That includes regular exercise, spending time with loved ones, taking breaks when needed, and maintaining healthy boundaries. I also continue with my own therapy, which helps me stay grounded and reflective.
Working in Medway
After living and working in London for several years, I recently returned to Medway, an area I know well and have a strong connection to. It’s been meaningful to bring my practice back to a place that feels like home, and to be part of the growing mental health support available in the region. I currently see clients in person from a welcoming, professional space at:
GreenShed Spaces
147 High Street
Rainham, Kent
ME8 8BA
The clinic is easily accessible and located in the heart of Rainham. I also continue to offer remote sessions via Google Meet, which allows me to work with clients from across Kent, London, and beyond.
Resources & Recommendations
If appropriate, I may recommend books or apps that support the work we do in sessions. These resources can help deepen understanding, offer practical tools, and support reflection between appointments. A few that I often recommend include:
- The Child In You by Stefanie Stahl: A clear and accessible introduction to inner child work. The book includes practical exercises that help readers explore core patterns and build stronger emotional awareness.
- The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk: A well-regarded book on the lasting impact of trauma on the brain and body. It offers insight into how trauma shapes behaviour, emotions, and physical health, and explores a range of therapeutic approaches to healing.
- Menopause by Kate Muir: Offers balanced, evidence-based guidance for those navigating this stage of life.
Other recommendations will depend on your specific goals, interests, and areas of focus in therapy.
A Note on Therapy
One thing I wish more people understood is that therapy isn’t just for those in crisis. It can be helpful for anyone looking to make sense of their experiences, manage change, or build new skills. You don’t need to be in distress to benefit from a space where you can think more clearly and make intentional decisions.
Final Thoughts
At ES Therapy Centre, my aim is to offer a professional, collaborative space where clients can explore challenges, build insight, and work towards meaningful change. Whether you’re dealing with a specific issue like anxiety or navigating a life transition, therapy can offer the tools and perspective needed to move forward with greater clarity.
If you’re considering starting therapy or simply want to understand more about how I work, please feel free to explore the rest of the site or get in touch. I offer both in-person sessions in Medway and remote sessions via Google Meet, depending on your needs and preferences.
