THERAPY FOR OLDER ADULTS

Specialist Care

As we grow older, later life can bring emotional and practical challenges. Retirement, physical health changes, bereavement, loneliness, shifts in identity, and increasing care responsibilities can take a toll on your mental health.

At ES Therapy Centre, we specialise in supporting older adults and their families through life transitions, emotional challenges, and cognitive concerns. Whether you’re seeking therapy for yourself, a loved one, or navigating a new diagnosis, we offer thoughtful, compassionate care grounded in over a decade of experience.

Our principal psychologist, Dr Esthefanea, has over 10 years of experience working with older adults in various settings, including the NHS, care homes, care agencies and private practice. Her approach is warm, collaborative, and informed by NICE guidelines (evidence-based recommendations for health and care in England and Wales), offering personalised support that takes into account the unique emotional landscape of later life.

THERAPY FOR OLDER ADULTS

Mind & Memory

With time, our lives and needs naturally shift. We may face losses, changes in identity, physical decline, or shifts in independence. These experiences can understandably lead to anxiety, low mood, loneliness, or feelings of frustration. Therapy can provide a confidential space for reflection, making sense of your experiences, and feeling supported in whatever challenges you’re facing.

We offer cognitive screening using the ACE-III (Addenbrooke’s Cognitive Examination III) for individuals who are concerned about memory, attention, or language difficulties. Please note: this is not a diagnostic service. However, the results can help guide discussions with your GP or specialist and support the next steps in your care.

Reports are available for an additional fee and may assist with medical referrals, social care planning, or for personal records.

THERAPY FOR OLDER ADULTS

Family & Carers

Caring for someone you love can bring both deep connection and overwhelming responsibility. You’re not alone in this.

At ES Therapy Centre, we support family members and carers through the emotional and practical challenges that often arise when a loved one is experiencing cognitive or physical decline. Whether you’re closely involved day-to-day or supporting from a distance, we’re here to help. We offer space to explore:

  • Grief and anticipatory loss
  • Navigating diagnosis and hospital appointments
  • Managing carer stress

We also offer joint sessions where appropriate, and welcome families who are seeking guidance and clarity through particularly difficult transitions. We believe caring for carers is essential. Your mental health matters too, and you don’t have to carry this alone.

Sessions are available in-person in Medway, Kent and online across the UK. Home visits may be available in specific cases. Please contact us to discuss your needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can psychotherapy help?

Psychotherapy can give people the opportunity to reflect, explore, and gain an understanding of their difficulties. It can open up conversations, bring clarity and help alleviate emotional distress. Through this process, clients can begin to form different perspectives, improve relationships and manage difficulties in a more balanced manner.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends entirely on yourself and the issues you bring to counselling. Some people come for just a few sessions and feel ready to stop, whilst others may feel they need longer. This is something we can talk about and agree on together.

Who do you work with?

We offer a safe, supportive and empathetic space where clients can explore issues without fear of judgement. Inclusivity is at the core of our practice. We recognise the unique difficulties faced by marginalised communities. Regardless of your age (18+), ethnicity, race, gender, sexuality, or disability, you are warmly welcome here.

However, we do not offer emergency crisis service. If you are worried and in need of urgent help, please visit your nearest A&E department or call the emergency services on 999.
You can also contact the following services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week:

  • Samaritans: 116 123
  • NHS 111: dial 111
  • SHOUT: Text SHOUT to 85258

  • SANEline: 0300 304 7000
  • CALM: 0800 58 58 58
What is your cancellation policy?

We require 48 hours’ notice for the cancellation of sessions. Sessions cancelled within fewer than 48 hours are subject to the full fee. If your therapist needs to rearrange a session for any reason, they will aim to give you as much notice as possible and offer a suitable alternative session time.

How long is each counselling session?

Each session lasts a minimum of 50 minutes.

What are the fees?

Fees range from £80 to £120. For more information, contact us directly.

Where are you based?

We are based in Medway, Kent. We work with clients from this location as well as surrounding areas. In addition to providing in-person psychotherapy sessions, we also offer remote sessions for clients in other areas across the UK via Google Meet.

Is it all confidential?

Yes, sessions are confidential. However, there are some limits to confidentiality. The therapist will need to break confidentiality in situations where:

There are concerns about your immediate safety or the safety of others
